This is the best organic text!

This is my favorite chemistry book. This book is different from others because it's conversational in tone and easy to read. If more chemists wrote like this, there would be a lot fewer discouraged potential chemists out there. The electron diagrams lead to complete understanding of reactions so you don't need to memorize them. The problems are interesting puzzles. You will want to do more than the ones that are assigned just to find out what the answer is. The accompanying solution manual provides all the details needed to completely understand the answers. Chemistry can be beautiful and understandable when a book is written this well.

Good, but not good enough

This is a great introductory textbook for organic chemistry, but for accelerated chemistry courses, it simply failed to give more advanced materials and examples.

I ended up getting another organic chemistry textbook to complement it. Still one of the most understandable organic textbook around, though.

Stupendous

A number of times, fellow students entering organic chemistry have asked to buy my Loudon textbook and the accompanying study guide. But I declined - "my Loudons" are staying with me for the long haul, I said, as I encouraged them to buy their own new copies.

This book is simply marvelous. It has plenty of stimulating illustrations and examples, and its many problems progress gradually from trivial to challenging and instructive. (I did every end-of-chapter problem for the first eleven chapters, and the resulting factual retention and depth of understanding have served me extremely well.) But, most importantly, its exposition is rock-solid, full of the lucid analogies and consistent mechanistic logic that make organic chemistry tractable. It was telling that I started to get irritated with the book after 800 or so pages. When I asked myself why, I realized that it was no fault of the text but simply that fact that Loudon had already improved my thinking so greatly that I was constantly anticipating him! The study guide/solutions manual is also indispensable - it has fully worked-out solutions to every single problem as well as "Study Guide Links" covering more peripheral (but often very interesting and useful) material.

To be sure, the book is on the wordy side, and it is not completely comprehensive, though these attributes are quite acceptable in an introduction. To a p-chem kid like me, the treatment of the physical phenomena underlying NMR and IR spectroscopy was far too superficial, though the explanations were fine for structure determination. Loudon scattered valuable and compact spectral tables throughout the second half of the book as the corresponding functional groups were introduced, which made the book harder to use as a spectroscopy reference than it could have been. Its CD-ROM is a little hokey, and its price has kept going up, as this web page makes evident.

But these drawbacks pale in comparison to Loudon's stupendous treatment of the basic substance. My Loudons have given me strategies to tackle problems in nanopatterning research, they have gotten me through problem sets in cell biology, and they will stay with me as a reference as long as I am a chemist. They will not disappoint.

Renald E. Showers (diploma in Bible, Philadelphia Bible Institute; B.A., Wheaton College; Th.M. Dallas Theological Seminary; Th.D., Grace Theological Seminary) serves on the staff of The Friends of Israel Gospel Ministry in New Jersey. He has served as a pastor; as a member of the faculties of Lancaster School of the Bible, Moody Bible Institute, and Philadelphia College of Bible; and as a visiting lecturer. His other works include "The Most High God, Maranatha: Our Lord Come!" and "What on Earth Is God Doing?".

Excellent handling of Scripture!

Best book I have ever read on the pretrib rapture position. Showers draws out the context of many passages proving that the pretrib position is the only truly biblical position.

An Outstanding book on Eschatology

In depth, but he won't loose you. This book handles the future events in a systematic way. Sometimes the pointers in the book get tedious, but that means you can't just sift through this material and think you can grasp many of the facets of the last things. A worthy read.

Biblical Imminency!

Along side his other definitive work comparing dispensationalism and covenant theology There Really Is a Difference!: A Comparison of Covenant and Dispensational Theology, Dr. Showers has rendered us a great service with "Maranatha--Our Lord, Come!". His biblical and scholarly work will continue to set the standard in defending the premillennial, pre-tribulational rapture of the Church for a long time to come.

As stated in the Foreword, "With over one-third of the Bible devoted to the subject of prophecy, the essence of which is the Lord's return, we can ill afford to be uninformed or confused about a hope so basic to our lives...Indispensable to any comprehensive work on the Lord's coming is and examination of the question of Imminency--the "any moment" return of Christ."

Although "Maranatha" is a deeply rich and encompassing study of the Rapture of the Church, I only have time and space enough to mention the following quotes from Dr. Showers. These should be enough to show how important this matter is and what is at stake in our churches. It also serves as a reminder of the expectant living every believer needs each day to fulfill our Lord's Great Commission to every tribe, nation, tongue, and people.

In his chapter on Imminency, Dr. Showers states:
"The concept of the imminent coming of Christ is a significant inference for the Pretribulation Rapture of the church. To understand this concept, we must examine the meaning of the term "imminent."

The English word "imminent" comes from the Latin verb "immineo, imminere," which means to "overhang" or "project". In light of this, the English word "imminent" means "hanging over one's head, ready to befall or overtake one; close at hand in its incidence." Thus, an imminent event is one that is always hanging overhead, is constantly ready to befall or overtake a person, is always close at hand in the sense that it could happen at any moment. Other things may happen before the imminent event, but nothing else must take place before it happens. If something else must take place before an event can happen, that event is not imminent. The necessity of something else taking place first destroys the concept of Imminency."

Dr. Showers point here is very important. For example, this failing is seen clearly in the premillennial covenant (post-trib) position coming out of schools related to the EFCA that believes the Antichrist MUST be revealed first, and the Church MUST go through the Great Tribulation, BEFORE Christ can return. Since certain things MUST happen before the rapture can occur, this position does not allow for the, any moment, imminent return of Christ that is so often repeated in Scripture. Nowhere do we find that "imminent" equals "sometime soon"...and I have not been able to find anywhere in Scripture where the believer is to find his future hope an expectant living in looking for the Antichrist.

The Practical Effect of Imminency
Dr. Showers goes on to state, "The imminent coming of Christ should have an incredible practical effect on the lives of individual Christians and the church as a whole. The fact that the glorified, holy Son of God could step through the door of heaven at any moment is intended by God to be the most pressing, incessant motivation for holy living and aggressive ministry (including missions, evangelism, and Bible teaching) and the greatest cure for lethargy and apathy. It should make a difference in every Christian's values, actions, priorities, and goals...In addition, in 1 John 3:2-3 the apostle emphasized the impact that the truth of Christ's coming should have on Christians living now: "We know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is. And every man that hath this hope in Him purifieth himself, even as He is pure."

Finally, with the biblical doctrine of Imminency under siege in some denominations like the EFCA, Dr. Shower's excellent discussion in Chapter 7 is vitally important to us today. Along with that we are seeing inroads being made against the consistent use of a single normative hermeneutic by "new" systems with misleading labels such as "Progressive" and "Historic" forms of premillennialism. If you scratch below the surface you will see that both of these are little more than Covenant Theology dressed up in sheep's clothing. These views also have a weaken view on the inspiration of Scripture and use a "complementary" hermeneutic. Pastors, church leaders, and pastoral search committees can no longer afford to be complacent or uninformed and assume that being "premillennial" or even "dispensational" means normative dispensational.

The Bible in Revelation 22 closes by saying, "And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely...He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus."

In Dinner With a Perfect Stranger, David Gregory relates the story of two men sharing a meal. The point of interest is knowing that one man believes he is Jesus. What will the other man think by the time the evening is through? The conversation begins, as one could imagine, scratching the dry hard surface of skepticism and doubt, but gently and persistently goes deeper and deeper, spiraling in from that starting point until they are eventually talking about the true stuff of life; the career drifting off-track, the marriage experiencing its own kind of strain, the life being lived where the philosophical questions of youth have given way to simply coping with modern day-to-day living.

Gregory's book is a refreshing reminder of what evangelical Christianity is at its very best -- a faith enlivened by the personal relationship between the Creator and the created. In the end, evangelical Christians are focused on who Jesus Christ is, and more specifically, who He is to them. Doctrinal stances, theological conundrums, questions about literal or non-literal Biblical interpretation, these are all beside the point for the certain type of Christian whose central focus is the life and person of Jesus.

In the Narnia series, C.S. Lewis touched on some of the core questions of religion, from the Christian viewpoint (is there a hell? What is heaven like, really? How can other religions be wrong, and just one be right?) Taking his cue from Lewis, Gregory does the same, realizing that questions like these come alive when they're in the context of a story, and we can be the third party, watching with interest while they are put on the table and considered. In the end, Gregory's book succeeds because of his willingness to approach interesting, hard questions like these. He is always, undoubtedly, aiming for the heart, but he realizes that to win the heart one must never forget that the mind has to come along for the ride. --Ed Dobeas

In this didactic inspirational novella, Cincinnati workaholic Nick Cominsky accepts an invitation that he assumes is a gag: to have dinner with Jesus Christ himself. He soon finds out it's no laughing matter, and, despite his doubts and initial misgivings, he engages in a long conversation with the deity (who has jettisoned the long locks and sandals in favor of a Brooks Brothers haircut and blue suit). That conversation constitutes the novella's light plot. As the courses of their elegant Italian meal are delivered, Nick and Jesus discuss the dichotomies of sin and salvation, grace and works, organized religion and personal faith. In his quest to prove why Christianity is superior to other religions, Gregory has Jesus make misleading statements about Hinduism, Buddhism and particularly Islam. These unfair caricatures add to the book's heavy-handed feel, as do strawman arguments for the veracity of the Bible and the resurrection. What's appealing about this book is that its Jesus is refreshingly down-to-earth; he digs good food, draws theological illustrations from Star Trek, and quietly chafes at wearing a necktie. But that can't disguise the fact that Gregory has not written a story so much as a dressed-up and controversial sermon. (July 19)

I'm a Skeptic

I'm a skeptic when it comes to little books that are supposed to pack a big punch. They seem shallow, glib, and over-simplified. Usually.

I read "Dinner with a Perfect Stranger" in one sitting. Yes, it's short; yes, it's simple; but it's also profoundly moving. There are no big surprises--a few little ones--and no hit-you-in-the-gut emotional twists. Instead, the author moves us through this meal with Jesus in such a way that I wanted to kick back and have coffee and dessert too. I wanted to meet Jesus face to face and ask some of my own questions.

The author handles many subjects within his dinner conversation, and he does so with grace and wisdom. Nick Cominsky, our main character, deals with Jesus in sarcastic tones, and Jesus responds in ways that seem downright believable, wise, and funny. I liked this realistic tone of the dialogue. Sure, the author could've gone much deeper into certain issues, but he leads us to the bottom line of Christianity: a personal relationship with Jesus based on faith instead of good works.

If you believe the Bible, this book is a breath of fresh air; if you don't believe, this book may cause you to reconsider things. Either way, it's well done and well worth an hour of your time.

A quaint look at christianity

I received this book from an aunt who has recently "rediscovered" her Christian-self and ever-since has been proselytizing to me, in an effort to convert me I suppose. While her intentions are pure and her motivation is love, I must confess I wasn't exactly excited to hear she had another book for me.

I almost tossed this book to the side, but upon inspecting it further - it looked like a quick read. I skimmed through it a bit, and the premise seemed at once both intriguing and a bit silly. But after thumbing through some pages and finding enough food for thought to at least catch my interest for an afternoon I actually ended up reading it in one sitting.

I was pleasantly surprised with what I found. The book is told from in a first person narrative form, as an average modern man receives a dinner invitation from Jesus. He thinks it is a practical joke, or a ploy from a local church - but later finds it is the real deal.

As another reviewer noted this book is really not much more than a sermon disguised as a story, but as sermons go this one was enjoyable, and thought provoking. I'm an agnostic myself, so I never claim allegiance to, nor deny any religion in particular. I found the view of Christianity portrayed in this book to be much less harsh than I expected. Very little in the way of guilt, god-fearing, bible-beating or any of that evangelical non-sense. In fact there's no fire and brimstone at all. While the book does present a clear-cut view, and certainly positions it's own view of Christianity as THE truth, it's more centered around the true values of the religion of Love, Trust in God, and God's compassion and love for us all, rather than focusing on the evils of sin and using guilt and fear. It draws readers in and uses the main character to invoke both empathy and critical thinking.

This less-conservative view is really more about the essence of Christianity, and less about the formalities. There's little in the way of preaching exact rules, and at times even puts down church hierarchy and organized religion. It very much stresses a personal relationship with God and Jesus - and in that sense could have been written by Martin Luther himself as it seems to have a very protestant informal view of the religion.

It does in the first half present a logical basis for both 1) The existence of God, and 2) that Christianity is the one true religion. Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam are all discussed in one way or another and are ultimately discredited. Islam in particular is dismissed as being misinformed, hypocritical, and plain erroneous in it's teachings. Buddhism and Hinduism and other religions with a pantheistic view are dismissed on flimsy argument that the universe MUST have a creator and that all cannot be one - something with which I disagree with personally. Jesus gets our story teller to admit that modern science proves the universe had a set beginning - which I really don't believe coincides with modern physics which has many theories which suggest the universe is a constant cycle of explosion and implosion. Judaism is never really referenced, because Christianity stems from it - but there is a discussion on how we can be sure Jesus really is/was the messiah, which seems to indirectly address modern Judaism which essentially just denies Jesus being the son of God and rejects the new testament.

While it successfully pokes holes into other major world religions and does do an ok Job addressing the most common questions and logical problems/misunderstandings of Christianity, I found the totality of its argument to be less than infallible. Those holes are where Jesus stresses trust. Paradoxes abound, we are never given complete answers - but the holes here we are told to just have faith, while the holes in other religions are used as proof for their being inherently flawed.

Still, I found the book enjoyable, interesting, and refreshing in a sense. Sure it's a sermon in a story, but it's a good-hearted one. And at least it's vision of Christianity is quaint and true to the quintessential nature of itself. The image of Jesus sitting down and dining humbly with an ordinary man, the emphasis on love, and the constant insistence that God's ultimate desire is not to be worshiped or to have you earn your way to heaven but to have you accept his free gift of forgiveness and love is very warming in an age where fundamentalism in all religions seems on the rise. Only momentarily does the book discuss hell or provoke any sort of fear or talk of damnation and it doesn't really go too much into that. Whether that is just to try and get you in the door or whether that is the author's view on his faith - that love and compassion, not fire and brimstone are what jesus was about - that's to the reader's own opinion.

All in all, if you're in the mood to contemplate religion, or want a glimpse of a humble and (I believe) more true look at what Christianity really is (or should be) all about - then read this book. This book may be selling something, but it's no telemarketer or car salesman - it's more of a helpful clerk in the electronics dept that will tell you just what they really think and let you decide for yourself. While I did not like how easily the book was willing to toss aside other schools of thought, nor how the book made it seem that evidence (historical and physical) was so clear-cut in Christianity's favor, I did enjoy reading it and if nothing else it reminds me just what a beautiful religion Christianity really is, something that can get lost on many in a day where the loudest voices are those of Jerry Falwell, the Christian Coalition and other militant conservative extremists.

My Aunt may be a long ways from converting me, but if she had to give me a book Im glad it was this one, as I did enjoy it over-all and found it an interesting read.

A Grand Invitation!

The invitation came to him at the office. Perfect in every respect from the Crane stationery it was embossed on to the choice of place-an upscale Italian restaurant. Only one problem, the invitation is from Jesus. It has to be some sort of joke. If it is, it's an expensive one.

Nick Cominsky is a 30-something strategic planner with a lovely wife, Mattie, and a toddler daughter, Sara. Life should be great, but it's not. His 60-70 hour workweeks have stressed his relationship with Mattie. And there are things going on at work that just aren't right, but Nick feels powerless to do anything about it.

So Nick spends the next three weeks thinking about the invitation, wondering who sent it, and saying nothing to anyone. And on the day of the dinner invitation he goes-more out of curiosity than anything else. And he meets a man his age in a blue suit who answers to the name Jesus and claims to have been born in Bethlehem.

For the next several hours Nick has more than a meal. He throws up every objection he has to organized religion in any form-and gets no argument from Jesus. Instead he gets answers to all the things that have caused him pain and grief in his life. That includes what he can do to heal his marriage and most of all what it means to have a way to God, rather than a path-and why the difference is so important. And he learns who put his dinner guest up to sending him the invitation in the first place.

For the reader who has had more questions than answers about God-this book is for you. For the reader who has found God, but doesn't know how to answer the question-"Why should there be only one way?"-this book is for you. And to readers who want their walk to match their talk-this book is for you. I highly recommend it.

learning to question like columbo!

Its simple and direct by giving categories of things you need to question and then specific example questions within that category thus making it easier to understand and memorize plus its cheap and very small book so its easy to travel with and helps stimulate critical thinking by teaching you to ask critical questions.

Brilliant start to learning calligraphy!!!!

This book teaches you a basic form of hebrew calligraphy, and then shows you different types of fonts. It also teaches you how to hold the pen, how to draw lines in angles and degrees, and how to erase mistakes.

Good introduction to hebrew calligraphy

There are many books on roman script calligraphy, but this is one of only a handful on hebrew calligraphy. No prior knowledge of general calligraphy or the hebrew alphabet is assumed. Detailed instruction on forming the standard hebrew square script is provided, along with a short annotated bibliography of additional scripts and medieval examplars. This book is a fine introduction for beginning hobbyists and is available at reasonable prices. More serious hobbyists and aspiring professionals will be better serves by seeking out the much more rare and expensive book by Cara Goldberg Marks called 'Handbook of Hebrew Calligraphy.'

An introduction to calligraphy, using one basic Hebrew script

I was surprised to find that this book spent most of its time covering the basics of calligraphy in general and included no models for decorative Hebrew scripts. This is not a good book for the intermediate, much less, advanced scribe of any alphabet. Most of the book talks about calligraphy tools you need, lighting, work space, how to hold a pen, etc. at a level that is only appropriate for someone completely unfamiliar with calligraphy. There is very specific instruction on each letter, and how each is formed, but in only one basic style. There is only one page where you can see a comparison of Ashkenazic and Sephardic scripts, and they are not elaborate examples. There are eight b/w illustrations of manuscripts, but they are so small you can't see the lettering. If you are doing a serious project in Hebrew script, and already have basic experience with calligraphy tools, this book is only going to show you one basic script option, which probably won't be enough. If you are new to calligraphy and just want to be able to create basic Hebrew lettering with a nib pen, then this is a good introduction.

The past three decades have been challenging ones for macroeconomists. Key variables in macroeconomics—the levels of output, inflation, and unemployment; interest rates; and foreign exchange rates—have proved difficult to explain and predict. This period also has been an active one in macroeconomic theory, a period of controversy but also of progress. The years since the late 1960s saw a growing number of challenges to Keynesian economics, which was the dominant paradigm of the early 1960s. The 1970s witnessed a growing interest in monetarism and the emergence of the new classical economics. In the 1980s, Keynesian policy prescriptions came under attack from a group called the supply-side economists. The 1980s also witnessed the development of two contrasting lines of research on the business cycle: the new Keynesian economics and the real business cycle theory. However, there has been progress as well as controversy. During the past 30 years there have been significant improvements in the handling of expectations, in our understanding of labor market institutions, in accounting for the macroeconomic implications of various market structures, in the modeling of open economies, and in accounting for the ultimate sources of economic growth.

In this book I have tried to explain macroeconomics, inclusive of recent developments, in a coherent way but without glossing over the fundamental disagreements among macroeconomists on issues of both theory and policy. The major modern macroeconomic theories are presented and compared. Important areas of agreement as well as differences are discussed. An attempt is made to demonstrate that the controversies among macroeconomists center on well-defined issues that are based on theoretical differences in the underlying models.

FEATURES

Distinguishing features of the approach taken here include the following:

• An up-to-date summary of the Keynesian position, including research that has come to be called the new Keynesian economics.
• A detailed analysis of the challenges to the Keynesian position by the monetarists, new classical economists, and real business cycle theorists.
• An extensive treatment of monetary policy that considers the optimal strategy for monetary policy, including targeting on monetary aggregates versus targeting on interest rates, as well as consideration of recent policy changes in central bank operating procedures in a number of other countries—most importantly the move to inflation targeting.
• An analysis of the post-1970 slowdown in U.S. output growth, capital formation, and growth in labor productivity. Within this context of intermediate-run growth the views of the supply-side economists and their critics are examined. Also within this context of the determinants of rates of intermediate-run economic growth, we consider whether there are signs that the productivity slowdown of the 1970s has been reversed. Is there a "new economy" developing for the new century?
• A consideration of the determinants of long-run economic growth. Both the neoclassical growth model and recent models of endogenous growth are discussed.
• Consideration of foreign exchange rate determination, including discussion of recent proposals for policy coordination, target zones for exchange rates, and common currency areas, in particular the euro-zone.
• An examination of monetary and fiscal policy effects in the open economy, within the framework of the Mundell-Fleming model.

ORGANIZATION

Part I (Chapters 1-2) discusses the subject matter of macroeconomics, the recent behavior of the U.S. economy, and questions of measurement. Part II (Chapters 3-13) presents the major macroeconomic models, beginning with the classical system in Chapters 3-4. Consideration of the classical system at the start is useful because the Keynesian model can then be viewed as an attack on the classical orthodoxy. Challenges to the Keynesian position can then be rooted in the parts of the classical model that provides starting points for their analysis: the quantity theory of money for the monetarists, and the classical labor market clearing assumptions and choice-theoretic-based behavioral functions for the new classical and real business cycle economists.

The Keynesian model is analyzed in detail in Chapters 5-8, beginning from a very simple model; more complex models are built up to incorporate monetary influences, wage and price flexibility, changing price expectations, and shocks to aggregate supply. Chapter 9 examines monetarism and the issues in the monetarist-Keynesian controversy. Chapter 10 examines the monetarist view of the unemployment-inflation trade-off and the natural rate theory, as well as the Keynesian view on the same issues. Chapter 11 considers the new classical theory with its central concepts of rational expectations and market clearing. The Keynesian response to the new classical economics is then considered. Chapter 12 examines two recent directions in macroeconomic research. One, very strongly rooted in the classical tradition, is the real business cycle theory. The second, the new Keynesian economics, is, as its name suggests, firmly in the Keynesian tradition. Chapter 13 summarizes and compares the different models.

Part III considers open economy macroeconomics. Chapter 14 focuses on exchange rate determination and the choice of an international monetary system. Chapter 15 utilizes the Mundell-Fleming model to examine the effects of monetary and fiscal policy in the open economy.

Part IV deals with macroeconomic policy—monetary policy in Chapters 16 and 17, then fiscal policy in Chapter 18.

In Part V we present extensions of the models and consider parts of the models in greater detail. Chapter 19 examines questions of long-term economic growth and the determinants of growth over intermediate periods, periods too long to fit the short-run framework of the models of Part II, but not necessarily situations of long-run equilibrium. Chapter 20 is a more detailed examination of the components of private sector demand: consumption and investment expenditure. Finally, Chapter 21 extends the earlier analysis of money demand.

In the section on macroeconomic models, the conceptual approach taken is to develop each model within the aggregate demand-aggregate supply framework in order to facilitate comparisons among the models. Throughout the book the aim is to provide a clear and rigorous analysis. Other pedagogical features are the explanatory captions provided for the graphs in the text and end-of-chapter questions and problems.

Most chapters also contain Perspectives sections, which relate the material in the text to events in the real economy.

NEW FEATURES IN THE SEVENTH EDITION

• There have been a number of pedagogical improvements in this edition. These include: better graphics, some simplifications in notation, more use of graphs rather than tables to display data, and more numerical examples.
• A number of new Perspectives sections have been added, several dealing with international questions such as the launch of the Euro, the possibility of a "liquidity trap" in Japan, and the use of currency boards or dollarization as alternative exchange rate mechanisms in countries such as Argentina and Ecuador. Other new Perspectives consider the possibility of "irrational exuberance" in the U.S. stock market in the 1990s and the implications of complete elimination of the U.S. national debt.
• The chapter on fiscal policy has been revised to reflect the move from a situation of large budget deficits to one of huge surpluses (at least in the near term future). Longer-term budget trends are also considered.
• The ordering of chapters has also been changed. The international section (now Part III) has been moved forward to directly follow the main section on macroeconomic models (Part II). The policy section (Part IV) comes next, followed by extensions (Part V).
• In order to cover new material without increasing the length of the book, coverage of topics that have become less relevant has been cut back. I have attempted to make the analysis as simple and concise as possible.

Overall, there has been an attempt to make the book more student friendly.

ANCILLARIES

• Instructor's Manual with Test Bank: This resource manual provides the instructor with detailed chapter summaries, answers to end-of-chapter questions, and a complete test bank. For each chapter, there are 50 to 70 multiple-choice questions as well as 10 to 15 problems and essay questions.
• Computerized Test Bank: Prentice Hall's Custom Test, a Windows-based test program, permits professors to edit and add or delete questions from the test bank to generate their own customized classroom tests.
• Study Guide: Each chapter contains a detailed overview with a tips section on equations and graphs called Techniques in Depth. The Study Guide also provides a self-test with 30 multiple-choice questions and 10 problems and essay questions.

macroeconomics

Unlike other macroeconomics texts, this book offers a through treatment of all the primary theories in macroeconomics, classical, Keynesian, monetarist, neo-Keynesian, real business cycles, etc, as well as a lengthy discussion of monetary policy. It does not spend any time on introducing the concepts of supply and demand and other basic economic principles. I used this book in an intermediate macro class and found the explanations very clear. It is also up to date and contains many sidenotes about current events/economic debates.

Review of Macroeconomics: Theories and Policies

Overall, a good book for students and business people who wish to gain more knowledge of macroeconomic theory. Very good examples of real life situations, and excellent descriptions of how the theorems work. I would recommend this to economic students wishing to excel in class and business people with the need for economic theory in relation to commodity purchases.

Great book. Very clear and complete. Also very concise. It goes directly to what it is needed to know about the main macroeconomic theories. If you are going to read one book about macroeconomic theory this should be the one.
