The narrative contains no overt horrors--only the image of the insubstantial bridge of the title, Stella at one end, her adored father at the other, walking toward each other but never meeting. She cannot rid herself of the part of her that became Maria, and after the war she spends years searching for the house where her alter ego grew up. The novel's unobtrusive voice, the remembered family scenes, the single, doomed love affair contrast poignantly with the tragedy that lies beneath the quiet surface. Minco has created a novel about the Holocaust that, like Anne Frank's diary, differs from most others.

Pass - SPOILER ALERT!

SPOILER ALERT. Seriously, fair warning. I can’t write this review, giving it the rating I did, without an explanation. So if you don’t want to read a spoiler review….STOP NOW!

I’ve read this blurb over and over again, trying to remember what I was so drawn to when I chose to read this. It must have been the “hope” I was feeling when I read, “living under the same roof, Dante discovers he wants more, and if Cleo lets down her guard, she just might find what her heart’s wanted all along.”

From the VERY BEGINNING, we are thrust into the notion that Dante is an ass. He is very rude, uses woman (Cleo) included and has absolutely no problem with it. In fact, he’s very open about it. He even calls Cleo by the wrong name after their “first” sexual encounter. But I guess that wasn’t yucky enough for Cleo, because she kept going back for more.

Cleo hates her job, hates how she’s treated by her boss (aka Dante) but has no problem jumping into bed with him, repeatedly. Even after being called a different name, fighting with him about his manors and accusing him of being an arrogant ass, she continues to degrade herself by “sleeping with the enemy”, so to speak.

Read the blurb again. See that part where “Cleo’s world is unexpectedly turned upside down”? She gets pregnant. Yep, pregnant by a man she hates, but is attracted to. Oh wait, it just keeps coming. When she tells him that she’s pregnant, he fires her, gets her thrown out of the office and calls her names. But wait, I’m not done. Guess what? He somehow gets her to move into his home, all of a sudden caring about the baby he already signed off on (yes, a contract was signed where he gave up his rights as a father), and somewhere around the 70% mark of the book, starts asking “personal” questions about who she is, what she likes and tries to be a better man…for the baby. And she FALLS FOR THIS!!!!

Nope, just no…

Despite her boss being her brother’s best friend he is a complete jerk to her

Cleo has just started working for Dante and already hates her job. Despite her boss being her brother’s best friend he is a complete jerk to her. He is constantly talking down to her and treating her like she is inferior. But when he comes on to her during a business trip she finds herself giving in to his advances.

Dante is a pretty ruthless business man or man in general, her isn’t a hearts and flowers kind of guy. While reading Ruthless Proposition it was easy to hate Dante, if you could get past his dirty talking and the wild, hot sex. I am the eternal optimist when I reading and even I was wondering when Dante would come over from dark side.

Cleo and Dante return from their business trip and decide to end their affair. Neither have any deep feelings for each other and now that they are back in the office decide to keep things more professional. Despite their plan, weeks later Cleo and Dante find themselves forced back together.

I absolutely loved this story, for one big reason, the feels. This story absolutely pulled me in on every level. Yes, it’s hot and sexy, but the plot and character development blew me away. Throughout the story I saw Dante and Cleo change and develop, and I was hooked. I love how this isn’t a story of insta-love, but more the characters developing and growing. I love how the twists were full of feels and different than what I normally read.

Days after finishing this story I am still thinking about Dante and Cleo. If you are looking for a fun, sexy read this is for you. The banter had me laughing out loud. The dirty talk and sexiness is off the charts. Most importantly the plot is full of feels and heart wrenching moments. Highly recommend.

5 "Dante Was A First Class Jerk, And I Loved It"........d;D

If you're surfing the reviews no doubt you're seeing a trend, and I absolutely can confirm: Dante is an a$$hole (bona fide grade A, USDA Prime). Having said that, I must confess that I loved every single minute of it.......wait, what? Why you ask? Because no one writes an a$$hole like Natasha Anders, and equally, no one makes them beg for forgiveness like NA ( hehe makes it worth all the time you spent wishing you could smack them) Simarily, NA always casts a strong willed heroine who gives said jerk a good run for his money. Enter Cleo, she worked for Dante as his assistant. It may have take her a little time to gather steam, but when she did, she stood up for herself and didn't let Dante push her around. Needless to say, there were some fireworks, and I loved every minute of that too. ( lol... I mean really, isn't that half the fun). All kidding aside, this was a fast paced, heartfelt, angsty read with good characters and a hero willing to humble himself for the woman he loved.........d:)

Great book, a must read companion to The End series

Rarely does a spinoff rival or exceed the original story in depth, quality, or attitude, but this is that exception. If anything, I enjoyed it more than the original series, and though it's tough to read a book where you know the ending, it was written in such a way that it was fresh "and I didn't see it coming"!
The central character is Lexi and Hopf did an exceptional job in her character development and she is anything but static, my original perception of her from the series. I originally saw her as a "snapshot", static by that time and through that lens. In this book, we see her morph out of operational necessity into who she "became", though there were some transformations, surprisingly, beyond that. There are also some explanations for what was originally portrayed as obsessions, which turned out to be something entirely different. (No spoilers here).
As a male who has been to 35 different countries and seen life, survival, and "humanity" (a word used inversely for what it actually is, "inhumanity"), I find the book accurate for a SoCal female placed in post-apocalyptic suburbia. I also see that feminazies might argue the reality of it all, though I'm sure they will find some solace that she does remorselessly kill a few men.
The irony of her upbringing is not lost, or shouldn't be on those with similar experiences. "When life gives you lemons, reload your AR!"
Great book, the ending gave me... A warm and emotional feeling inside.

The start of another great series by G. Michael Hopf!

This is an outstanding post-apocalyptic tale by master storyteller G. Michael Hopf. As a huge fan of The New World series, I was excited to see him expand on Lexi's character. It is the start of another great series that will not disappoint!

This book starts as a backstory to the life of Lexi (introduced in The New World series: Book #2) and it opened my eyes to a character that seemed a bit of a mystery. So many critical situations and tragedy that I hadn't even imagined! Before the Event, Lexi was a completely different person than the one introduced in The New World series. Her relationship with her sister and others, her way of thinking in extreme situations, even her way of dressing was so different! This was a thrilling book with very specific and clear changes that emerged due to Lexi's life experiences. Mr. Hopf has created the beginning of a fascinating new trilogy and I can't wait for more!

This stuff flat out works!

This book is excellent! It is well laid out and easy to follow. Implementing Search Engine Optimization (SEO) strategies can get complex so it was nice to have a well structured step by step system to follow.

The first 35 pages or so of the book walk you through some basic SEO knowledge and store setup. I already had a store fully setup but I found a few things that I had overlooked...so I would recommend going through this section even if you already have your store setup. If you don't, then this pretty much walks your through everything you would need to know.

From there the book gets into a plethora of SEO strategies that are based upon researching what Google has said it looks for when indexing content. The author really makes things easy to understand even if you are not familiar with the concepts. There are also lots of images and flowcharts which I found very helpful when I started working on my store. I have a pretty good working knowledge of SEO but I still learned a lot from this section. There were at least 10 - 15 things that I was either not aware of or that I simply had not thought about doing. The overall plan is very thorough and well thought out. I wish I had this a year ago when I was first getting started with Shopify.

The final 50 pages of the book get into SEO tools and more advanced strategies such as reverse engineering competitor's websites. For me, this section was pure gold. There were countless tools that I had no idea even existed that can have a huge impact on your site's rankings. As with the rest of the book, everything is easy to follow with loads of images and flowcharts.

I would say this book is a must have for anyone who owns a Shopify store. I would have spent a ton of time and money figuring this stuff out on my own. I"m already seeing increases in my organic traffic from Google and even a few of the other lesser search engines like Bing and I'm not even completely finished implementing all of the strategies that the book covers. The book has paid for itself many times over with the increased sales that I'm seeing. This one has been a homerun for me.

Approachable for the first time!

I have been studying and trying to understand SEO for about 5 years now. It is a complex web of terminology, theory, and rules. Shopify Empire finally makes SEO approachable! I read this book first and foremost to try and better understand SEO and came away completely satisfied. What I did not see coming was how intrigued I would be by the Shopify commerce platform. Even though it was not my intent, I will likely build a Shopify platform at some point simply due to how well this books walks you through Shopify–step by step and screenshot by screenshot. The author has a deep understanding of how these things work and he artfully breaks each step down so that others may understand them too.
Well done and simply brilliant!

Great little book every Shopify store owner should read

This is a great little book - tells you what you need to know and what to do from a store owners point of view - it does not drown you with technical jargon. He does promote his own software tools but not in an overbearing selling way and he does give details of alternative tools.

Life Changing Book

This is the best books I've ever read when it comes to transforming your mind. It's a book that you MUST take your time reading in order to digest all Bishop Jones is teaching.

If we could get more leaders to write books in this manner, we'd have less confused saints. I found myself writing down notes as if I was in a classroom while reading this book.

Things this book will do for you once you are done reading it.

1. Give you a better understanding of what it means to transform your mind.

2. Give you a better understanding of the Greek and Hebrew meaning of a word.

3. It will expand you vocabulary.....You will need your dictionary while reading this book.

I'm so glad Bishop Noel Jones has written this very timely book. I can add this to my collection of all the preaching tapes I have of his.

IT MADE ME WANT TO EXPLORE SOME OF THE BIBLE PHILOSOPHERS FOR MYSELF. I THINK IT WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT BOOK FOR THOSE LOOKING FOR ANSWERS TO THE COMPLEXITIES OF THE MIND. Reading from VIII position

Ideal in order to expand your reading beyond the firsts frets of the guitar.
Of course I think is better to make studies based on reading in the previous frets before.
Maybe the best way to face this studies , is not repeat them many times, but trying to be accurate from the first reading and repeat very few times,increasing your concentration.

A must for the guitarist who wants to do things right!

If you are a guitarist who wants to build the fundamentals and knows how to read music (which you should know if you want to do things right), then this book is for you. On the other hand, if you are Joe Metalhead who wants to impress your friends with power chords, go somewhere else and quit reading the rest of this.

I have played guitar for 20 years. I took some private lessons years ago, which helped me to build the proper foundation. I also know how to read music. I hit the wall about a year ago and found that I hadn't really learned scales the way I should. This book and others from Berklee have fixed that. Of course, it has taken work but EFFORT = RESULTS. Much of what is out there is like the crumbs that fall from the table compared to this book and others like it from Berklee.

One caution... as a prerequisite, you should be familiar with the scale patterns as taught in Modern Method volumes 1-3. If you are not, you will have trouble finding the proper fingering for some of the pieces of music.

If you really want to know the guitar and advance, spend the $15 or so for this book. You will never regret it!

After buying "Reading Studies for Guitar" I knew that "Advanced Reading Studies for Guitar" would be a perfect companion. This second installment of reading studies covers positions 8-12. I can definitely say my playing level has been sharpened and I am now more confident about my playing abilities.
